JULIA MONTGOMERY
BETTY CHILDS
JULIA MONTGOMERY is the Sweetheart of Sigma Chi in her most famous role as the less than virginal sorority sister Betty Childs who drops her jock boyfriend for Robert Carradine’s geeky Lewis in the teen comedy “Revenge of the Nerds” (1984). Although she has other credits, the actress remains most associated with this role, which she reprised in two Fox TV-movie sequels: “Revenge of the Nerds III: The Next Generation” (1992) and “Revenge of the Nerds IV: Nerds in Love” (1994).
Raised in New Jersey, Montgomery began acting in the sixth grade and shortly after graduating high school landed the role of Samantha Vernon on the ABC daytime drama “One Life to Live” in the late 1970s. After three years, she left the security of a steady paycheck to further expand her career options.
Montgomery was featured in the 1981 CBS TV-movie “Senior Trip!” and made her feature debut in “Girls Nite Out” (1982). Unfortunately, she was more or less typecast as the stacked blonde in such lesser comedies as “Up the Academy” (1983) and “Stewardess School” (1986). In the late 80s, she concentrated on small screen work, making guest appearances on shows like “Magnum, P.I.,” “Full House” and “Cheers” as well as appearing in the occasional TV-movie like the 1989 ABC “Columbo” mystery “Sex and the Married Detective” and the two-part sci-fi miniseries “Earth Star Voyager” (ABC, 1988), about the crew of a spaceship forced to take control when the captain disappears. More recently, now billed as Julia Montgomery Brown, she had a small role in the film “Two If By Sea” (1996) and made a guest appearance on a 1997 episode of the NBC sitcom “The Single Guy.”
